Getting Started: Layout Templates

Creating an eye catching and professional form can be a tremendous tool in helping ramp up the level of your customer service. By enabling Advanced Templates you can use the FieldEdge Layout Designer to create custom forms which will give you the ability to make your forms your own and increase the wow factor for your clients.

With Layout Designer you can create templates for the following:

  • Invoice & Quote
  • Invoice Only
  • Quote Only
  • Work Acceptance
  • Work Order
  • Agreement Invoice

In order to use an advanced template, we first have to tell FieldEdge we want to use these advanced templates.

1. In FieldEdge, click on Settings and select Global Settings from the Company section.

2. On the following screen, scroll down Layout Template Settings.

3. Select the radial button for Advanced Templates.

4. Click Save in the upper right corner of the window.

Once Advanced Templates are enabled, you can begin creating custom layout templates.

1. In FieldEdge, click on Settings and then select Layout Templates from the Company section.

2. From the layout template's list, click on Add Template.

3. Lastly, select the type of template you would like to create from the Template Type and then select Create.

Note: selecting Cancel will return you to the template list.

There may be times you wish to apply some slight changes to your existing forms, but you don't want to lose the work you've already invested. Creating a template from an existing template allows you to keep all the hard work that's already been done while also letting you make some changes to a copy.

1. In FieldEdge, click on Settings and then select Layout Templates from the Company section.

2. From the Layout Template List, click into the Search Bar and type the name of the layout template you wish to copy from.

3. The list will now display any relevant results based on your search. Now, click on the existing template.

4. You'll now be in the Layout Designer for that template. Click the Copy button in the top right of the template.

5. The existing template you had selected will Save and Close, and you'll now be on the screen of your copy. Provide a name for this new form.

6. When finished, click Save. This will close the existing template and open your newly created template based on the previous template's design.

 Each Layout Template is composed of a series of blocks known as Sections. Each Section houses a series of components known as Layout Elements. Together these Sections and Layout Elements help create your customized forms.

Note: Hovering your mouse cursor over a particular asset will reveal more information about the selected section or element.

Form Settings

This block of settings controls the logistics of the template.

  • Determine a name for the template.
  • If the form is no longer going to be used, it can be made inactive.
  • You can set a particular template type as the default. Which becomes the primary template sent to customers and what is used on mobile.
  • Attach an additional document to accompany the form when emailed.

Sections

Sections are the backbone of your form. These are broad categories of information that help determine the type of information you're displaying and the order in which it appears.

  • A selected Section will be highlighted on both the Section list and the template.
  • Each Section can be arranged by clicking and dragging a Section's hamburger button up or down.
  • To remove a section; first select the section in the body. Then, select the X in the upper-right of the section. Lastly, confirm the removal by clicking Remove.

Layout Elements

Layout Elements are specific features related to a selected Section. The features contained within a particular Section will vary.

  • To add a particular element to the form, highlight a particular section. Then, click and drag the element to the appropriate section.
  • Click and drag the element again to find the position that best suites your needs. A red shadow will silhouette the selected element, helping guide the placement of the element.
  • The size of an element may also be adjusted. Hover your mouse over an element. Then, click and drag the lower right corner of the element left or right.
  • To remove an element, hover your mouse over a particular element. Then, click the X in the upper-right corner. 

Element Settings

Each Element in the template has it's own settings. These allow further control over a particular Element. These setting range from aligning text or uploading an image.

  • To access the settings of a particular Element, click on a particular Element within the template.

When printing or emailing your form, you have the ability to select an alternative Layout Template from a drop down menu. This allows you to pick the best template for your situation.
